Company registry verification confirms that a company exists in its official national registry and returns what the registry holds on it — legal name, legal form, address, activity and legal representatives. Use it to check a business customer or partner

What you submit
Open Verify, then Verifications, then click New verification.
Select Company.
Choose the Country of registration: France, Germany or Italy.
Enter the company's registration number.
Each country uses its own identifier and asks for slightly different details:

ℹ️ Note: Each country has its own allowance of included tests. Running a French verification does not consume your German or Italian tests.
What we check
The company exists
The registration number is looked up in the country's official registry. This is the core of the verification — it confirms legal existence, not commercial health.
The company is still trading
The registry's status is returned, so a company that exists but has ceased trading is reported as such.
The registry record is extracted
Everything the registry publishes on the company is returned, including its legal representatives.
For France, when you upload a Kbis rather than typing a number, the registration number and the document's issue date are read from the document first, then looked up.
Reading the result
Result | What it means |
Pending | Still running. Results usually arrive within seconds. |
Verified | The company was found in the registry. |
Failed | No company matches that number in that country's registry. |
Inconclusive | The check could not be completed. |
The details page leads with a plain-language verdict:
Verified, company active — "The company was successfully identified and is active."
Verified, company no longer trading — "The company was successfully identified but is no longer active."
Failed — "The company doesn't exist as no match was found for the provided company number and country."
Inconclusive — "The Company Registry Verification was unsuccessful because the company identification number could not be found on the document."
⚠️ Important: A Verified result confirms that the company exists in the registry. It does not confirm that the company is still trading. Always read the Status row alongside the verdict — a verified company can be inactive, and the details page flags this explicitly.
Unlike the other verification types, company registry verification does not return a list of reasons. The verdict itself carries the whole explanation.
The data we extract
On a Verified result, the details page shows what the registry holds:
Company
Legal name, trade name, registration number, legal form, VAT number, business activities, date founded, date ceased trading, and whether the company currently has employees.
Registration
The commercial register the company is recorded in, and the date it was registered.
Headquarters
The registered address.
Legal representatives
Each representative registered for the company. A representative can be a person — with their name, birth name and date of birth — or another company, with its name and registration number.
Accepted documents
Which official documents this company's registry issues: the company certificate (Kbis in France), the business registration certificate, or the RNE certificate. Use this to know which document to request from the company.
Business activities often appear more than once. The same activity is published under several classification systems, so seeing two similar rows is expected rather than a duplicate.
ℹ️ Note: Some companies are legally allowed to opt out of public disclosure. When that applies, the details page explains it at the top and many fields are legitimately empty. An empty list of legal representatives can be a valid result for the same reason.
Why a verification fails
A Failed result means the registry was searched and no company matched. The number does not correspond to a registered company in the country you selected.
What to do:
Check the number for a typo, and check that it is complete.
Check that you selected the right country. A French SIREN searched against the Italian registry will not be found.
Check that you used the right identifier for the country — a VAT number and a registration number are not interchangeable.
For Germany, check the company name as well. The German registry needs both the number and the name to match.
ℹ️ Note: A failed company registry verification is not counted against your included tests.
Why a verification is inconclusive
An Inconclusive result means the check could not be completed. It is never counted against your included tests.
The most common cause is an uploaded document we could not use: the registration number could not be found on the Kbis, or the file could not be read. A technical issue on the registry side produces the same result.
What to do: Enter the registration number directly instead of uploading a document, or upload a clearer copy. If the document is fine, run the verification again shortly.
Download the audit trail
On a Verified or Failed verification, click Download audit trail on the details page to get a PDF record of the check.
The audit trail is not available on Pending or Inconclusive verifications, because no conclusion was reached.
Frequently asked questions
The verification says Verified but the company has closed. Is that a mistake?
No. The verification confirms that the company exists in the registry. Companies that have ceased trading remain in the registry, so they are correctly reported as found. The verdict and the Status row tell you it is no longer active.
Why are so many fields empty on a verified company?
Either the registry does not publish that information, or the company has exercised its right to opt out of public disclosure. When that is the case, the details page says so at the top.
No legal representatives were returned. Is the result incomplete?
Not necessarily. An empty list is a valid result — it happens when the company has opted out of disclosure, and on registries that do not publish representatives.
Why does the same activity appear twice?
Business activities are published under more than one classification system, so a single activity can be returned under several codes.
Which document should I ask the company for?
The Accepted documents section lists the documents that company's registry issues. Ask for one of those.
Does a failed verification use up one of my tests?
No. Company registry verifications are only counted when they come back Verified.
Can I verify companies in other countries?
The tests included with your plan cover France, Germany and Italy. Wider coverage is available through the Company registry verification add-on.
